You never seem to have enough of them or have them where you need them. Of course, we are talking about power outlets. And honestly, they are usually a pretty boring part of your house.
It’s hard to make your store more decorative, but you can improve them. Smart sockets are a practical thing you can buy for your home. They are not too expensive, do not require complex installation, and can auto mall quite a lot of electronics in the house.
What is a smart store?
A smart socket is a device that plugs into any regular power outlet. Also known as a smart plug or smart switch, you can treat it like a socket extender that turns your socket into a preferred control center for anything you plug into it.
Of course, a socket is bad enough without making it protrude from the wall. But in this case, the large number is worth it. That’s because smart sockets can add remote controls for almost everything that is plugged into them. In other words, you’ll be able to control lights, waffles, flat esothroughs, teapots, coffee machines, or any other electronic device remotely, all through your smartphone, tablet, or web browser.
How does a smart socket work?
Most smart stores work the same way. The big difference is that the technology is used, as some work via Bluetooth, while others are designed to pair with a smart center and a larger smart home system. However, most simply tap on your existing WiFi network.
After you plug smart plugs into your indoor socket, you’ll complete setup by downloading the product’s app, which will show you how to connect a smart socket to a home network. When the installation is complete, you can plug any electronic device into that smart socket and start controlling it remotely from your chair, office, or a 3,000-mile beach.
How much does this cost?
The average price for a smart socket is about $50, although that may vary depending on brand and features. One of the cheapest options is TP-Link’s Wi-Fi Smart Plug, which sells for $29.99.
Even at that low price, you probably won’t want to add smart sockets to every socket in your home. It’s rising! However, it makes adding remote control to remote control devices extremely easy and reasonable.
What you’re looking for
Of course, price will probably be the deciding factor when you buy any smart socket. Just know that different ones have different features.
For example, some smart sockets allow you to track energy usage, so you get an estimate of that space heater, wall-to-wall air conditioner, or fan. Some also integrate with other smart home devices, such as security cameras, TVs, thermo thermoses, etc. Some even have featured so you can combine voice control from Amazon Alexa, Apple HomeKit, and Google Home.
At a minimum, a smart socket will allow you to turn the device on and off remotely. Most include settings for triggers and schedules, so you can program to turn the socket on or off at certain times of the day or based on certain conditions. That way, you won’t have to remember to turn the lights on and off every day. Also, make sure that smart sockets are compatible with your smartphone (not all of them are).
And finally, read the comments. The smart socket you choose must be extremely easy to operate and add utility to your life. Isn’t that all that smart home?
