With so many streaming services to choose from, it’s hard to follow. So here’s everything you need to know about AMC+.
People who have cut wires to get rid of cables often find themselves missing the channels they once had. But for those who specifically miss Out on The Walking Dead, Mad Men and other shows on the AMC network, there is an alternative in AMC+.
In this article we are going to explain everything you need to know about AMC +, including the monthly cost and the content available on it.
What does AMC+ mean?
AMC+ is a streaming service launched in June 2020 by AMC Networks. It has been described as a “premium streaming plan”, containing “AMC’s best features”, along with programming from several AMC-owned networks and services.
These include AMC itself, as well as shudder’s “complete collection”, Sundance Now and IFC Films Unlimited. This also includes programmes by AMC, BBC America, IFC and Sundance TV.
In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, AMC Networks CEO Josh Sapin described the company’s streaming strategy as treating its brands as “specialty stores.” Instead of offering an extensive library like Netflix, Hulu, and HBO Max, AMC+ is being positioned as a fan-focused alternative.
AMC+, using the slogan “Fan only”, will have a special appeal to cord cutters who have switched to Hulu + Live TV, which does not have AMC or any related networks available.
AMC + How much does it cost?
AMC+ costs $8.99/mo. Unlike many other streaming services, AMC+ does not offer multiple floors; the plan is always $8.99/mo. This service, instead of providing an ad level like Peacock and some others, is completely ad-free.
The service offers a seven-day free trial, you can buy this trial through different partners, although the free trial is not available through Xfinity, Dish or DirecTV.
How to watch AMC +
AMC+ is available on Apple TV Channels, Amazon Prime Video Channels, Xfinity, DirecTV, Dish, Roku, and Sling TV. There are no standalone apps for iOS or Android devices, although if you sign up through a provider, you can see it on that provider’s app.
The new service first launched through Comcast and was available on Roku in November 2020. This happened just before the Roku platform added HBO Max .
At the time of writing, AMC + is only available in the United States.
What content does AMC+ offer?
On the different brands offered, there is an impressive amount of content offered from AMC+.
That began with Mad Men, the first series to put AMC on the map as a prestigious television destination. After a brief streaming period on Amazon Prime Video and IMDb TV in the summer of 2020, all seven seasons of Don Draper and Co’s adventures moved to AMC+ in October of that year.
Also available if you subscribe to AMC+ are the most recent seasons of The Walking Dead series, including The Walking Dead, Fear The Walking Dead and The Walking Dead: World Beyond, although older parts of the original The Walking Dead remain exclusive to Netflix. However, AMC+ subscribers will get an early look at episodes of Walking Dead and the 10th season of The Walking Dead only streaming on AMC+.
In addition, AMC+ is the streaming station of older AMC network shows such as Hell on Wheels, and it also offers Rectify, the highly rated long-form drama that first aired on the Sundance Channel. Rectify joined AMC+ in spring 2021 after years of being on Netflix.
If you love British shows, AMC+ is also a prime destination. It is home to popular series such as Gangs of London, Spy City and Riviera.
If you are a fan of the horror genre, then Shudder is a must-see option. The service, also available for an independent subscription independent of AMC+, offers a long list of TV shows, including Creepshow, N0S4A2, The Last Drive-In with Joe Bob Briggs and Eli Roth’s History of Horror.
Shudder is also known for its films, both its rich horror catalog and regular original films. That’s where you can watch original Halloween and the Chainsaw Massacre in Texas, along with newer classics like Ginger Snaps and The Babadook, and when a popular new horror title comes out, it usually premieres on Shudder.
Of course, the movies offered on AMC are not just in the horror genre. The sides of AMC+’s Sundance Now and IFC offer a steady amount of classic movies. The IFC Films Unlimited list includes Boyhood, Blue is the Warmest Colour, City of Gold, Sleepwalk With Me, Sword of Trust, etc. Sundance Now’s film list includes Fargo, Lady Macbeth, The Deep Blue Sea and My Week With Marilyn.
What’s not on AMC+
Not everything traditionally linked to AMC’s cable network is available on AMC+. That started with Breaking Bad, which debuted all five of its seasons on AMC but remained exclusive to Netflix for streaming. The same is true of Better Call Saul, a sub-part of Breaking Bad. And when a follow-up movie, El Camino, is made in 2019, it’s for Netflix, not AMC.
There are also some IFC originals that you cannot download on AMC+. The documentary parody Documentary Now has all three netflix exclusive seasons. Brockmire, another respected IFC series, has all four seasons dedicated to Hulu. Most of these shortcomings are the result of transactions made long before AMC+ existed. Those programs can be visualized eventually to reach AMC+.
Does AMC+ look like AMC Premiere?
AMC+ should not be confused with AMC Premiere, another streaming service also offered by AMC.
AMC Premiere is an add-on available to those who have signed up for AMC; AMC+ offers all the content that AMC Premiere offers, in addition to all other content from Shudder, Sundance, IFC and other brands.
AMC should also not be confused with the AMC Theaters cinema chain, which is a complete uns concerning the company.
Is AMC+ valid?
AMC+ may not have as much content offered as some larger streaming services, but it offers a lot of quality content at the right price.
There is a successful combination of programs that you know, new programs to explore and a large library of movies. All combined to make AMC+ worth admission.
